What is the relationship between RFID technology and NFC technology?

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID, electronic tags), and Near Field Communication (NFC), are two of the more popular keywords, and both belong to tagging technology.

NFC is developed on the basis of RFID, NFC in essence is not different from RFID, and is used for signal transmission between two objects in close geographical proximity.

RFID is a non-contact identification technology from a professional point of view and is divided into two types: active and passive.

Working principle: RFID reader sends out the radio frequency, and after the electronic label coil, generates the signal, the reader reads the information and decodes it, completing the whole recognition process.

In general, active tags can also actively send signals. RFID system mainly consists of the reader and transponder two kinds of composition.

NFC working principle: between two NFC devices, when close to a fairly close distance, interact with each other information, and complete the corresponding transactions and other functions.

The biggest feature of NFC is the integration of the reader and transponder into the same chip, and the biggest highlight of NFC technology is the addition of peer-to-peer communication, which can quickly establish P2P (peer-to-peer) wireless communication between Bluetooth devices, where NFC devices find each other and establish communication connections.

The two devices in P2P communication are in a peer-to-peer relationship, while the two devices in RFID communication are in a master-slave relationship.

The relationship between the two: from mathematical analysis, it can be considered that NFC is a subset of RFID, that is, the communication distance within 10cm or 4inch RFID is NFC.

This difference is mainly due to the fact that in some applications specifically designed for cash payments, and RFID communication distance situations, other devices can also receive personal RFID information.

There are many insecurity factors; and NFC work effective distance of about 10cm, so it has a high level of security itself. If you use some special signal acquisition equipment, then you can read the RFID information at a considerable distance away.
