What is a GPS Antenna and how does it work?
A GPS antenna is a device designed to receive and amplify the radio signals transmitted on specific frequencies by GPS satellites and convert them to an electronic signal for use by a GPS receiver. The output of the GPS antenna is fed into a GPS receiver which can compute the position.

GPS Antenna Four navigation
1. The United States Global Positioning System (GPS).
It is composed of 24 satellites, distributed on 6 orbital planes separated by 60 degrees from each other, with an accuracy of about 10 meters, for military and civilian purposes, and is testing the second-generation satellite system;
2. The Russian GLONASS system.
It is composed of 24 satellites, with an accuracy of about 10 meters, and is designed for both military and civilian use. The scope of service is designed to expand to the world at the end of 2009;
3. European Galileo system.
Composed of 30 satellites, the positioning error does not exceed 1 meter, mainly for civilian use. The first test satellite was successfully launched in 2005. The location service is expected to be opened before 2008;
4. China’s Beidou system.
It consists of 5 geostationary orbit satellites and 30 non-geostationary orbit satellites. The accuracy of “Beidou-1” is within 10 meters, while the accuracy of “Beidou-2” can be within “cm”.
The Global Positioning System is the second-generation satellite navigation system in the United States. It was developed on the basis of the Meridian satellite navigation system, and it adopted the successful experience of the Meridian system.
Like the Meridian system, the global positioning system consists of three parts, the space part, the ground monitoring part, and the user receiver.
The space part of the Global Positioning System uses 24 satellites with a height of approximately 20,200 kilometers to form a satellite constellation. The 21+3 satellites are all in a nearly circular orbit, with an operating period of approximately 11 hours and 58 minutes, distributed on six orbital planes (four on each orbital plane), with an orbital inclination of 55 degrees.
The distribution of satellites makes it possible to observe more than four satellites anywhere in the world at any time and maintain a geometric figure (DOP) with good positioning accuracy. This provides continuous global navigation capabilities in time.
The ground monitoring part includes four monitoring stations, an upstream injection station, and a master control station. The monitoring station is equipped with GPS user receivers, atomic clocks, sensors for collecting local weather data, and computers for preliminary data processing.
The main task of the monitoring station is to obtain satellite observation data and transmit these data to the main control station. The main control station is located at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
It exercises full control over the ground monitoring department. The main task of the main control station is to collect all the observation data of GPS satellites from each monitoring station and use these data to calculate the orbit of each GPS satellite and satellite clock correction value.
The upstream injection station is also located at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Its main task is to inject this kind of navigation data and instructions from the master station into the satellite when each satellite is in the air.
This injection is performed once a day for each GPS satellite, and the final injection is performed before the satellite leaves the range of the injection station.
GPS antenna function
GPS positioning system refers to a system that uses satellites to locate and navigate in real-time on a global scale, referred to as GPS (Global Positioning System).
GPS positioning system function must have three elements. GPS terminal, transmission network, and monitoring platform; these three elements are indispensable; through these three elements, it can provide vehicle anti-theft, anti-robbery, driving route monitoring, and call command functions.

Space part
The space part of the GPS positioning system is composed of 24 GPS working satellites, which together form a GPS satellite constellation, of which 21 are satellites that can be used for navigation and 3 are active-backup satellites.
The 24 satellites are distributed in 6 orbits with an inclination angle of 55° orbiting the earth. The operating period of the satellite is approximately 12 sidereal hours.
Each GPS satellite sends out signals for navigation and positioning. GPS users use these signals to do their work. It can be seen that the role of the satellite part of the GPS positioning system is to continuously transmit navigation messages.
GPS Control section
The control part of the GPS positioning system consists of a monitoring system composed of several tracking stations distributed around the world. According to their different functions, these tracking stations are divided into main control stations, monitoring stations, and injection stations.
The function of the master control station is to calculate the satellite ephemeris and satellite clock correction parameters based on the GPS observation data of each monitoring station, and inject these data into the satellite through the injection station; at the same time, it also performs satellite Control and issues instructions to the satellites.
When the working satellite fails, the standby satellite will be dispatched to replace the failed working satellite. In addition, the main control station also has the function of a monitoring station.
The function of the injection station is to inject the satellite ephemeris and satellite clock corrections calculated by the main control station into the satellite.
User part
The user part of the GPS positioning system is composed of GPS receivers, data processing software, and corresponding user equipment such as computer meteorological instruments.
Its function is to receive signals from GPS satellites and use these signals for navigation and positioning.
The above three parts together constitute a complete GPS positioning system.
