What is a Flexible Antenna 3dBi NB IoT Antenna?

The Flexible Antenna 3dBi NB IoT Antenna CTRF-ANTENNA-FPC-8019-5224-IPEX is a 3dBi antenna NB IoT antenna flex PCB antenna manufactured by C&T RF Antennas Inc.

The Flexible PCB Antenna 3dBi NB IoT Antenna is suitable for the IoT device for the NB-IoT network connection.

IoT devices are into three categories.

① No mobility required, large data volume (uplink), wider frequency band required, such as city surveillance cameras.

② Mobile needs to perform frequent switching, and small data volume, such as fleet tracking management.

③ No need for mobility, small data volume, and insensitive to latency, such as smart meter reading.

NB-IoT is born to cope with the third type of IoT device.

NB-IoT originates from the following major needs of IoT at this stage.

Coverage enhancement (20dB enhancement)

Support for mass connectivity, 100K terminals/200KHz cells

Ultra-low power consumption, 10-year battery life

Ultra-low-cost

Minimized signaling overhead, especially for null ports.

Ensure the security of the entire system, including the core network.

Supports IP and non-IP data transport.

Support SMS (optional deployment).

For existing LTE networks, the above requirements are not fully satisfied. Even with LTE-A, the focus is mainly on features such as carrier aggregation, dual connectivity, and D2D, and does not consider IoT.

For example, in terms of coverage, the water meter, example, is located in a poor wireless environment, compared with smartphones, the height difference leads to a signal difference of 4dB, while then covering the lid, an additional increase of about 10dB loss, so it needs to be enhanced by 20dB.

In terms of large-scale connection, there are too many IoT devices, and if the existing LTE network is used to connect these massive devices, it will lead to network overload, and even if the amount of data transmitted is small, the credible order traffic is enough to drink a few pots.

In addition, NB-IoT has its own characteristics, for example, there is no longer the concept of QoS, because at this stage, NB-IoT does not intend to transmit delay-sensitive packets, and devices like real-time IMS will not appear in the NB-IoT network.

Therefore, 3GPP took a different approach and developed the NB-IoT standard in Release 13 to cope with the current stage of IoT demand, and there is an additional terminal class corresponding to NB-IoT in terminal support – cat-NB1.

Although NB-IoT and LTE are closely related and can be integrated on top of the existing LTE system, and many parts are optimized for IoT based on LTE, from the technical point of view, NB-IoT is an independent new air interface technology.
