RF Connectors And Adapters Supplier
C&T RF Antennas Inc is the RF Connectors And Adapters Supplier in China.
RF Antenna cables terminate at both ends in a connector; but, connectors, as well as adapters, can also be sold separately.
What is an RF connector?
RF connectors, i.e. RF coaxial connectors, are usually considered to be a component fitted to a cable or mounted on an instrument as a component for the electrical connection or separation of transmission lines.
RF Connectors are located at both ends of a cable, and their type is determined by the connectors on the reader and antenna being used in the application.
RF connector development
Compared with other electronic components, RF connectors have a relatively short history of development. 1930 appeared in the UHF connector is the earliest RF connector.
To the Second World War, due to the urgent need for war, with the development of radar, radio, and microwave communications, resulting in N, C, BNC, TNC, such as medium-sized series, after 1958 appeared SMA, SMB, SMC, and other miniaturized products, the development of the U.S. military standard MIL-C-39012 “RF coaxial connector general specifications,” from then on, RF connectors began to standardize, serialization, the general direction of development.
The United States, Britain, France, and other countries in the development of RF connector technology is in the lead, its design, production, testing, use of technology has become a dragon supporting, tend to be perfect, not only formed a complete system of standards, and raw materials, infusion of materials, test systems, assembly tools have been standardized, and professional scale production.
RF connector features
RF connectors also gradually show their professional characteristics:
1. More varieties and specifications: more than 20 international common series, more varieties, and specifications.
2. Rely on the mechanical structure to ensure that the electrical characteristics of mechatronic products and other low-frequency connectors have the essence of the difference.
3. Parts processing is mainly turning machine processing, assembly manual work, it is difficult to carry out the automated assembly.
4. Slow product renewal.
5. It is an important part of the electrical connector, belongs to the certain technical content of the labor-intensive products.
6. Product reliability, failure mode, and failure mechanism are complex.
With the development of science and technology, RF connectors become more and more important, new technologies and new products are emerging. RF coaxial connector industry will be a large market.
RF signals have their own characteristics, so the transmission signal requires a special medium, and the corresponding connector is also very special, here is the main introduction of common RF coaxial connectors, in line with the standard GB11316-89, IEC169, MIL-C-31012, and other standards.
First, common coaxial connectors and the main performance cross-reference table.
In addition to the above connectors, there are MINI BNC, SL16, C3, CC4 (1.0/2.3), SMZ (BT-43), MIM, and other connectors, but mainly some companies’ models.
Second, is the choice of common coaxial connectors.
BNC is bayonet type, mostly used for RF connection below 4GHz, widely used for instrumentation and computer interconnection.
TNC is a threaded connection, size, and other aspects similar to BNC, working frequency up to 11GHz, threaded for vibration environment.
SMA is a threaded connection, the most widely used, impedance has two kinds of 50 and 75 ohms, 50 ohms with flexible cable use frequency below 12.4Ghz, with semi-rigid cable up to 26.5GHz.
SMB is smaller in size than SMA, it is a self-locking structure for fast connection, commonly used for digital communication, it is the replacement of L9, 50 ohms up to 4GHz, 75 ohms up to 2GHz.
SMC is a threaded connection, other similar to SMB has a wider frequency range, often used in military or high vibration environments.
N-type connectors are threaded, insulated with air, low cost, available in frequencies up to 11GHz, commonly used on test instruments, available in 50 and 75 ohms.
MCX and MMCX connectors are small and are used for dense connections.
BMA is used for blind plug connections in low-power microwave systems at frequencies up to 18 GHz.
Each connector is available by both military and commercial standards. The military standard is manufactured to MIL-C-39012 with all copper parts, Teflon insulation, and gold plating inside and out for the most reliable performance, but at a higher cost.
Commercial standard design is the use of inexpensive materials, such as brass castings, polypropylene insulation, silver plating, etc., the reliability of some poor.
Connector materials are brass, beryllium copper, and stainless steel, the center conductor is generally gold-plated to ensure low resistance and corrosion resistance. Military standards require gold plating on SMA and SMB, silver plating on N, TNC, and BNC, because silver is easy to oxidize, users prefer nickel plating.
What is an adapter?
RF Adapters are passive coaxial components that are used to transfer signals from one connector interface to another. They can be used to transition signals from an SMA Connector Interface to an N-Type connector interface of BNC to TNC etc.
An adapter is used to join any two coaxial connectors that would otherwise be incompatible. There are two scenarios where a coaxial adapter may be required:
If one or both connectors on a cable is incompatible with the RFID reader or antenna.
Purchasing a cable with the incorrect connectors can happen easily; not only are some of them similarly named, but they appear similar in pictures as well.
To save money when experimenting with different antennas and readers.
If an application is still in the testing phase, several different antennas and/or readers can be purchased for experimentation.
Instead of purchasing several cables with different connectors to match each reader/antenna combination, one cable and a few different adapters can be purchased instead. This can save time and money during testing.
