Description
What is an External Active GNSS Antenna Magnetic Mount Antenna?
The Active GNSS Antenna Item CTRF-ANTENNA-GNSS-1516-5550-SMA is an antenna assembly consisting of a patch antenna for receiving GNSS signals and a preamplifier for signal amplification supplied by C&T RF Antennas Inc.
The Active GNSS Antenna is capable of 1575.42MHz,1561MHz, and 1602MHz frequencies for GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, and Galileo applications.
Power supply to the antenna preamplifier must be provided by the application on the same RF signal trace as the GNSS RF signal is carried to the application.
Available with a choice of antenna connector type. The choice is SMA, BNC, GT-5, or SMB.
The antenna has an internal magnet so that it can be fixed on a metallic surface.
Easy to use the antenna. Does not require RF or antenna knowledge.
The CTRF-ANTENNA-GNSS-1516-5550-SMA is a compact, wideband technology External Active GNSS Antenna Magnetic Mount Antenna that provides accurate reception for all upper L- band GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, and Galileo signals (L1, G1, B1, B1 BOC, B12, E1) and associated augmentation signals (WAAS, EGNOS, and MSAS SBAS).

What is a GPS antenna used for?
Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is a general term describing any satellite constellation that provides positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services on a global or regional basis.
While GPS is the most prevalent GNSS, other nations are fielding, or have fielded, their own systems to provide complementary, independent PNT capability.
GNSS can also refer to augmentation systems, but there are too many international augmentations to list here.
The two most popular types of antennas used in GPS receivers are patch and quadrifilar helix or quad helix for short. This page addresses external GPS antennas which are normally used when stronger satellite signals are needed. Many models are mounted magnetically to the roof of a vehicle.
What is an active GPS antenna?
Active antennas contain a low-noise amplifier and possibly a filter and line driver. It is very important to put the LNA as close to the antenna as possible to get some gain before the cable loss. The trick with GPS is that the signal is extremely small.
